Introduction. The article deals with the problems of countering arms trafficking and armed crime, taking into account the prevailing conditions and circumstances caused, among other things, by the conduct of a special military operation (SVO). The author draws attention to the correlation and other dependencies of these types of crimes, and their analysis and scientific interpretation allowed us to formulate a number of proposals to improve the effectiveness of criminal law and special criminological prevention. Methods. In the process of the research conducted by the author, a number of general scientific (system analysis, method of hypotheses and assumptions) and special methods were used (statistical method, study of reports on armed crimes and illegal arms trafficking in Internet channels, analysis of criminal case materials, questioning of employees of the bodies of inquiry and preliminary investigation who acted as experts, a survey of citizens with using the Google Forms software package, statistical observation and document research). Results. The analysis and generalization of the above-mentioned elements of the subject showed that crimes related to the use and use of weapons, both lethal and non-lethal, have an inverse correlation with the circulation of weapons, including legitimate ones, which, taking into account the shortcomings of legal regulation, negatively affects the state of law and order and the fight against armed crime. A number of proposals have been substantiated to adjust both "weapons" and criminal legislation, as well as the practice of countering armed crime and arms trafficking.
