The game is one of the underestimated, and therefore poorly explored aspects of human life. Despite the efforts in the field of cultural studies, psychology and anthropology, there are many «blank spots» in the study of the game aspect of human activity. At the same time, researchers have already drawn attention to the unique features of the game as a process associated with a high level of involvement of the player in the activities carried out by him. One of the areas where the prospect of introducing game practices is found is the pedagogical activity of higher education. This is due to the persistent problem of the lack of student involvement in the educational process and the need to find ways to overcome the current unfavorable trends in the educational sphere. The article analyzes the importance of the game as a factor in the formation of motivation, analyzes the possibilities and limits of the application of the game approach in the educational environment of higher educational institutions.
