Currently, the information war unleashed against Russia has reached its climax. It is aimed primarily at young people, disoriented by multidirectional information flows, without established principles and understanding of historical trends. Ignoring these problems can lead to irreversible consequences in Russian society. It is obvious that a reform of history education is overdue. The article draws attention to some problems of patriotic education, as well as issues related to changes in educational policy in the field of teaching history. The formation of competence focused on the development of historical consciousness among lawyers as the main element of civic identity is examined using the example of teaching the history of the Great Patriotic War and, in particular, the history of the siege of Leningrad.
