ntroduction. The research provides a systematic overview of scientific data on the factors and stages of homicidal readiness, as well as personal risk markers predicting a student’s attack against an educational institution. Methods. The research provides a systematic review of scientific articles on school shooting published over the past 11 years (2015–2025) in Russian peer-reviewed scientific editions. The review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) guidelines. Ultimately, 170 articles were included in the final list for review. Results. The terminology of the problem area (“mass murders”, “school shootings”, “armed attacks against educational institutions”, “amok”) and approaches to studying the phenomenon were analysed. The factors leading to attacks were differentiated into environmental and personal factors. Environmental factors are represented by physical environment factors and social environment factors. Personal factors are expressed by somatic and psychological-pedagogical factors. The step-by-step dynamics of the formation of homicidal readiness in a student and the realisation of an attack are described. The correlation between amok and suicidal intentions in the behaviour of an aggressor is identified. The provocative influence of the media and information environment on the formation of homicidal tendencies among students is characterised. Measures for the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of attacks against educational institutions are specified.
