Introduction. Higher education is currently undergoing a series of fundamental changes in the context of a dynamic transformation of its essential characteristics, striving to follow current trends and adapt to the realities of society. Contemporary researchers are focusing on the educational system within higher education institutions in general, and the mentorship practice in particular. Despite the existence of a large corpus of materials on the phenomenon of ‘mentorship’, there is nevertheless considerable variation in its descriptive characteristics, the academic community’s attitude towards it, and the difficulties and obstacles involved in reforming it. Methods. The system analysis method served as the primary approach. The article provides expert opinions regarding the current state of mentorship in contemporary Russian higher education institutions and identifies the root causes of its dissatisfaction. Results. The author emphasises that the modern system of mentorship needs to be reformed and, accordingly, proposes implementing the Pedagogical construct of collaboration (hereinafter referred to as the PCC) into the educational process. This construct consists of a triad of specialists: a curator, a tutor and a mentor. Introducing the PCC will significantly improve the situation, as this structure, on the one hand, will act as a catalyst for balanced interaction between all participants in the educational process, and on the other hand, will enable students to be offered the modern, professional, high-quality educational support they require.
