Introduction. The content of the course of firearms training for police officers provides for the development of their high-speed shooting skills. Developing the ability to quickly and effectively fire the first shot from a hand-held firearm is a way to increase the level of personal and collective safety when solving operational-service and service-combat tasks. As part of firearms training, the «First Shot» exercises are preparatory. They help to develop skills that subsequently contribute to a more successful performance of training and control shooting exercises by a police officer. In this regard, conducting a scientific and pedagogical study in order to develop recommendations for training police officers to perform the «First Shot» exercises is very relevant. Methods. The study included an analysis of regulatory legal acts, a study of scientific publications, educational and other literature on the methodology of firearms training. In addition, video materials on the organization and conduct of training sessions were in demand, the purpose of which was to develop sustainable skills in handling combat hand-held firearms. During practical classes on the subject «Fire Training», pedagogical observation of the actions of teachers and students was carried out. Methods of mathematical statistics allowed processing quantitative data obtained during the research work. Results. The result of the scientific and pedagogical study were recommendations for training police officers to perform shooting exercises «First Shot». The effectiveness of the developed recommendations is confirmed by statistical calculations. It is assumed that the use of the research results in the professional training of police officers will reduce the time spent on teaching them to shoot from combat weapons
