The article presents some results of a study of the historical experience of countering the circulation of counterfeit milk and dairy products in Russia in the 18th - 20th centuries. The features of legal regulation and control and supervision of the circulation of food products, including dairy products, are considered. Using the comparative legal method, the key stages in the development of the dairy industry in Russia, as well as state activities aimed at countering the circulation of counterfeit milk and dairy products, were identified during the period under study. Emphasis is placed on measures to counter the circulation of low-quality, falsified dairy products in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. Attention is drawn to ensuring control in this area of public relations, which is reflected in domestic sources of law.
