The article presents some results of a study of issues related to the organization of the activities of operational investigative units of internal affairs bodies for the prevention of crimes. The authors come to the conclusion that the lack of accounting for crime prevention work by police officers determines the low level of interest in its implementation. Bringing regulations governing activities in this area into compliance with the Federal Law «On Police» will help increase the activity of internal affairs bodies in implementing measures aimed at preventing crimes.
